HISTORY

While traveling for a paint company out of Denver, CO, Richard R. Myers began thinking he’d like to have his own business. So, when the opportunity for a Benjamin Moore paint dealership in the Yakima area became available, he took it. In 1954 he and his family moved to Yakima and opened Standard Paint along with 2 other partners.

Dick quickly built a reputation for offering exceptional personal service, a knowledgeable staff and a selection of quality products. To accommodate a growing business, he moved from his original location on 1st street, to W. Yakima Ave. Then, after obtaining sole ownership in 1974, Dick built a new facility on 3rd Ave., where our main branch is still located today. Further expansion came in 1980 with the addition of floor covering and decorating products, the opening of our Design Studio in 1988 and the addition of Abbey Carpet as an affiliate in 1998. In total, we now consist of 5 stores throughout central Washington and Oregon.

In 1986 Dick Sr. retired and his son, Dick Jr., took over. Today Dick continues to rely on the same standard of offering quality products and personal service, making Standard Paint & Abbey Carpet a place where service is still in style.
